How the weight timeline works

Summary
Weight is recorded automatically every time you fill in the weight field on a medical exam, vaccination, treatment, or note — or you can log it manually from the pet profile.

Every pet has a weight curve on its profile that shows how the animal's weight has changed over time. Two things you should know:

Where weight comes from

The weight curve combines values from two sources:

  1. Auto-recorded — every time you enter a number in the Weight (kg) field on:
    • a medical exam,
    • a vaccination,
    • a treatment, or
    • a note, flow.vet automatically saves that weight to the timeline. You don't need to record it twice.
  2. Manually logged — from the pet profile, click the Log weight button and enter a date + value. Use this when you want to record a weigh-in that doesn't belong to a specific clinical event (e.g. follow-up call, owner home weighing).

Both sources show on the same chart so the curve always reflects the full history.

Editing or deleting a value

How you edit or remove a weight depends on its source:

  • Auto-recorded weights are linked to the original record. To change or delete them, edit the medical/vaccination/treatment/note that produced them. Editing the source updates the curve; deleting (or soft-deleting) the source removes the weight.
  • Manually logged weights can be edited or deleted directly. Click the value on the chart, choose Edit, and update or delete from there.

This rule prevents two records from drifting apart — the source record is always the truth.

Reading the chart

  • Hover (or tap on mobile) any point to see the exact value, date, and source.
  • The chart automatically scales to the full history range. If you want to zoom into a recent window, use the date filter above the chart.

Common questions

Why doesn't a weight I entered show up?

The most common reason: the weight was entered as 0 or left blank. flow.vet only adds weights greater than zero to the curve.

Why is the same weight not showing twice?

flow.vet keeps one weight record per source event. If a medical exam already produced a weight and you edit the same exam to change the number, the curve updates rather than appending a duplicate.

Can I import a weight history from another system?

Not yet from a CSV directly. For now, log them as manual entries dated to the original visit, or use a backfill request — contact us with your data and we'll help.
